Please fill out the Application Form. You will get notified that we have received your application. Applications are usually reviewed within four to five days. Within two weeks you will then be notified if your application has been approved for the specific dog. We do not adopt to families with children under the age of 10 years old, sorry, no exceptions. We do not keep applications on file. Please submit a new one if you are interested in another dog.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do the dogs come from?
Our dogs are pulled from overcrowded high kill shelters and from owners who need to rehome their dogs because they cannot, for many different reasons, continue to care for them. We do not often have any background information on our dogs as many were brought in as strays or owner surrenders.
Where are the dogs located?
All of our dogs live in private foster homes throughout the Northern Virginia area.
Do you adopt out of state?
Yes, we do, as long as you have an approved application and come personally to pick up your dog in North Potomac/Gaithersburg, MD. We do not transport our dogs.
When will I get a response after submitting my application?
You will get notified electronically, by email, when we receive your application. Sorry, we get too many applications to respond to each one individually. But you will get notified if your application has been approved for the dog you applied for. That would be in a maximum of two weeks and often less. Our correspondence is done by a small group of volunteers. Thank you for your patience!
Can I meet the dog before I adopt it?
You can only meet the dog once we have an approved application. You will then move forward to adoption day where you will meet the dog BEFORE adoption. Then if all goes well, you will sign the contract and take the dog straight home.
What are the adoption fees based upon?
Rescued dogs and especially seniors are most often seriously neglected and require extensive vet care to get well enough to be adopted. Each adoptable dog has had:
We take in many senior dogs who typically cost us $2,000+ in veterinary treatments with required dental work, so we have to ask higher adoption fees for our young dogs to pay it forward to help our seniors. All expenditures are paid for by donations and adoption fees.
